Belarussian Orphanage Project

Love . Dignity . Integrity . Respect

Text Box: Our future plans include the renovation and redecoration a number of areas within the Therapy Building in Viacha including the Entrance Hallway, Therapy Centre, Stairwell and Dining Hall.
This building is the only general purpose building on the complex where the residents socialize and attend events including meals, concerts and activities. It is a vital element in their daily interaction and without it the residents would be confined to their dormitories. The building has not been renovated since the mid 1980s and is in a bad state in places as can be seen from these photographs. The building team will paint, reconstruct and renovate where necessary including updating furniture and equipment.
Contributions towards this project would be appreciated and if you would like to help then email us at bop1@eircom.net and we will forward you a catalogue outlining the cost of each area of the project you could sponsor through fundraising or hosting a special event. Below is an overview of the renovated areas, a copy can be requested by emailing bop1@eircom.net.

Owing to the success of the concert programme in  Draznia we have constructed a stage in Viacha nad our music therapist is constantly developing entertaining ways of involving the residents in concerts plays and general fun presentations.  We aim to set up a costume wardrobe in Viacha.

Similarly to Draznia this programme meets the needs of residents in Viacha as they attend the centre daily to participate in our programmes. The cafeteria also serves as a social meeting place for residents who live in separate units.

Every resident in Viacha is incorporated into our birthday programme. B.O.P’s party planner/music therapist organises the weekly party for those who celebrate with their friends. The programme is the highlight of the week for all residents.

Many of the residents of Viacha have many life skills as they lived at home for long periods prior to admission. Our therapists work with the residents on art based projects including oil and watercolour painting, mosaics, sewing and knitting programmes as well as general arts and crafts.

Day trips to the local lakes, parks and other places of interest are organised for summer with trips to the city for Circus and Opera in the winter. We also organise musicians and theatre groups to visit Viacha in Winter and perform concerts for the residents.

The Library is a venue for those residents who like social isolation and quiet time to read and listen to music. We will be maintaining this programme and updating it with computer, music library and new publications as they are printed.

With a beautiful natural location and large spaces available, BOP has a special Horticulture programme where we assist a group of residents to design, plant and maintain the territory. In 2009 Viacha came 3rd in the national ‘most beautiful gardens’ competition.
