Each Winter, Christmas and / or New Years many volunteers give up time with their families to join our team and travel to Minsk to bring Santa (Father Frost!) to the kids and residents. It is a magical experience where the true spirit of ‘giving’ is in everything we do.. and great fun to be Santa's Little Helper.

Winter Project

Though BOP is completely made up of Volunteers, we do employ 28 part time and full time Belarusian staff who care for the children throughout the year and especially at times when our volunteers are not present. Having trained our staff in methods of care, we are proud of their achievements with the kids.

As many of our children have medical conditions, BOP in cooperation with a large medical team in Minsk, sponsors and contributes to the daily medical care of the residents of 4 of our institutions.. Especially the children of Novinki, organising treatment, surgery and equipment and providing a complete medical infirmary.

Medical Programme

BOP works in close cooperation with management and teachers to maintain the classrooms/therapy centres which we assisted to renovate, redecorate and stock. We provide the best Furniture, Books, TV’s and Equipment that our sponsors could buy.

Education Programme

In Belarus the most important day of the year is your birthday and our birthday programme ensures that over 2000 kids and adults get to celebrate this event with friends. We provide the food, gifts, entertainment, staff and games to make the day unforgettable for everyone involved in 3 of our institutions.

Birthday Programme

Since 1996 BOP has been involved with the renovation, decoration and construction of Playgrounds, Soccer Fields, Conservatories, Classrooms, Visitors rooms, Bedrooms, Sitting rooms, Therapy rooms, Day rooms, Bathrooms / Toilets, Activity Halls, Canteens and Infirmaries.. Changing the face of the institutions.

Renovation, Decoration and Construction projects

BOP constructed and regularly re-stocks a number of Libraries in all 3 Institutions. As the Winter can stretch for up to 6 months, we ensure that there is a wide variety of items to keep everyone entertained, occupied and educated. By specialising in Belarussian books and Videos we help shorten the winter days.

Video, Book and Music Libraries

BOP sponsors, staffs and equips Music /Art Therapy Centre in 4 institutions. Here whether Kids or Adults they can explore creativity through making ‘Creative Noise’!!. In Therapy Centres we sponsor all of the Art supplies so that Art Therapy and Arts and Crafts can be undertaken by all.

Music and Art Therapy

For children / Adults who are confined to bed or have mobility problems, BOP provides Notebooks / Laptops for them to play games, learn English or to look at dvd’s, photographs etc. We accept damaged or broken laptops at our office which we repair and take to Minsk for use in the 5 institutions.

Notebook / Laptop Programme

Since our foundation we have strived to create and improve the environment in which our residents live. Through our Horticulture programme we assist in the designing and constructing beautiful gardens and playgrounds. For many years we have won the top 3 prizes in the National ‘Best Territory’ Competition.

Each Summer over 150 volunteers travel to Minsk to participate in our 8/ 10 day / 12 and 14 day Summer Project  which is a high energy fun experience for both Volunteers and the kids and adults of all 4 institutions. The work of the Belarussian Orphanage Project is wide ranging and varied but our primary aim is to meet the holistic needs of those who live in our 5 institutions. Here is a brief outline of our main projects and more details are featured later on this website.
